This is advertising, and it is also true

Both of those things are the case at once, and it is worth saying plainly. Minnesota Injury Guide is published by a law firm that would like injured people in Minnesota to call it. It is therefore attorney advertising and is labelled as such on every page. It is also written from the primary sources, dated, and corrected when it is wrong, because a page that is merely persuasive is not worth publishing under anyone's licence.

The brand name does not contain the firm's name. That is a publishing decision, not a concealment: the firm's legal name, the responsible attorney, that attorney's Minnesota licence number, and a street address appear at the bottom of every page on this site, and the build fails if they do not.

General information is not advice

Legal advice is what happens when a lawyer learns your facts, checks them against the current law, and tells you what to do. Nothing on a website can do that, because the site does not know your facts. An article describing how a rule generally works can be entirely accurate and still be the wrong thing for you to act on, because of a detail the article could not know to ask about.

The law changes, and this site lags it

Every guide shows the date its sources were last checked. Statutes are amended, rules are abrogated, and appellate courts change what a provision means, sometimes between one visit and the next. A guide checked eighteen months ago is a guide that was accurate eighteen months ago. Where a page cites a source, follow the link and read it — that is what the links are for.

No results, no predictions, no estimates

This site does not publish case results, settlement figures, or verdicts, and it will not tell you what a claim is worth. Those numbers depend on the injuries, the available coverage, the venue, and the facts of one particular case, and presenting them to a stranger with different facts is closer to a sales technique than to information.

Fees

Madgett Law, LLC handles most Minnesota personal injury matters on a contingent fee: the firm's fee is a percentage of what it recovers for you, and if there is no recovery, there is no attorney's fee.

Case costs are separate from the attorney’s fee. Filing fees, medical records, police reports, expert witnesses, and deposition transcripts are case costs. Madgett Law, LLC advances case costs, and repayment of those costs is contingent on a recovery. If there is no recovery, you owe nothing.

Any contingent fee arrangement will be set out in a written agreement signed by you that states the percentage the firm receives on settlement, trial, or appeal; which expenses come out of the recovery; whether those expenses are deducted before or after the fee is calculated; and any expenses you will owe whether or not you win.
